# 9apes CI Agent Skill for Claude and Codex

The `9apes-ci` skill teaches an AI assistant how to use the [9apes MCP server](https://9apes.com/docs/mcp-server/) well. Without it, an assistant can call the tools; with it, the assistant picks exact time windows, starts from aggregates before drilling into runs, keeps sample limits visible, and separates what the data shows from what it suspects.

> **Connect the server first:** The skill contains instructions, not credentials or code. It only works once the [MCP server is connected](https://9apes.com/docs/mcp-server/#connect-your-client) in the same client.

## What's inside

| File | Covers |
| --- | --- |
| [`SKILL.md`](https://9apes.com/skills/9apes-ci/SKILL.md) | When to use the skill, the tools, and the operating rules |
| [`references/contracts.md`](https://9apes.com/skills/9apes-ci/references/contracts.md) | Inputs, windows, filters, limits, and how to read each metric |
| [`references/playbooks.md`](https://9apes.com/skills/9apes-ci/references/playbooks.md) | Step-by-step investigations: slow jobs, regressions, failure triage, leadership reports |
| [`references/connecting.md`](https://9apes.com/skills/9apes-ci/references/connecting.md) | Connecting Claude and Codex, sign-in, and troubleshooting |

## Install

### Claude Code

Install it for every project:

```sh
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
curl -fsSL https://9apes.com/downloads/9apes-ci-skill.zip -o /tmp/9apes-ci-skill.zip
unzip -o /tmp/9apes-ci-skill.zip -d ~/.claude/skills
```

To share it with your team instead, unzip it into `.claude/skills/` in your repository and commit it. Claude Code picks the skill up the next time it starts.

### Claude (web and desktop)

1. Download [9apes-ci-skill.zip](https://9apes.com/downloads/9apes-ci-skill.zip).
2. Open **Settings → Capabilities** and, under **Skills**, choose **Upload skill**.
3. Select the zip file and make sure the skill is turned on.

Your organization may need code execution and skills enabled by an owner.

### Codex

```sh
mkdir -p ~/.codex/skills
curl -fsSL https://9apes.com/downloads/9apes-ci-skill.zip -o /tmp/9apes-ci-skill.zip
unzip -o /tmp/9apes-ci-skill.zip -d ~/.codex/skills
```

Restart Codex to load it.

## Use it

You don't need to name the skill. Ask about your CI and the assistant loads it when relevant:

- "Which jobs regressed most on `main` this week compared with last week?"
- "Find the slowest steps in our `build` job over the last 30 days."
- "Prepare a one-page CI performance report for leadership for September."

## Updates

The skill changes when the MCP server gains tools or rules. Download it again from this page to update; the zip always holds the latest version, and the files linked above show exactly what it contains.
